Informing and enlightenment of the public is one of the foreground directions in varied activity of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in the field of protection of ecological balance, guarding of environment.
Different mass events for ecological enlightenment of the people had been realized by Ecological publicity department and regional publicity sectors of the Ministry within 2010.
Some events had been realized by subordinated entities of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in “Month of Human rights” related to celebration of “The day of Human Rights” on 18th of June each year under the Order by Mr.Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated on June 18, 2007.
So, seminars, trainings, round tables, meetings of ecological character had been organized in higher and secondary educational institutions, offices and organizations of various regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan concerning “Attention and care to development of ecology and natural territories by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr.Ilham Aliyev”, “2010 is the year of Ecology”, “Protection of environment is our duty”, “Role of young generation in planting of greenery and its protection”, “Protection of environment  is guarantee of our health”, “Human and Nature”, “The 5th of June is the Universal day of Environment”, “Protection of greenery”, “Pure water – pure life for children”, “Reasons of occurrence of flood and struggle against it” etc.
Baku also had been included to the list of leading cities by UN Environment Program (UNEP) for this year like Genoa in Italy and Geneva in Switzerland in order to observe the World Day of Environment in European region in 2010. Mr. Christoph Buve, the Director of European Bureau of UNEP arrived in Baku and took part in mass planting of trees organized by the MENR within 10 kilometers of Zigh-Heydar Aliyev Airport main road with the participation of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Governmental and Non-governmental Organizations, diplomatic bodies, representatives of international organizations in Azerbaijan, representatives of mass media on the eve of the 5th of June – “World Day of Environment”.      
Articles had been published in mass media related to ecological calendar days, speeches had been made on TV and radio channels, community work days had been organized with the purpose of cleaning and construction, seminars, trainings, round tables and meeting with specialist of the Ministry had been arranged in higher and secondary educational institutions with teachers and students.
“School of Ecology for Journalists” under the MENR with the purpose of improvement of journalists’ knowledge in the field of protection of environment founded on August 3, 2010. At the end of lectures journalists will be awarded with appropriate certificates.
The representatives of mass media were at Khilli Nara (Sturgeon) Fish Farming Factory in Neftchala in order to inform people about the works concerning protection and increase of biological resources of Caspian Sea in the frameworks of “The week of Caspian Sea” related to observation of “International Sea Day”, questions related to activity and work of factory interesting for journalists had been answered by experts.
Press-tours had been arranged under motto “2010 – Year of Ecology – For Green world” for representatives of media corresponding to Plan of Complex Events prepared in the frameworks of “Year of Ecology” by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
Several events had been realized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources in the frameworks of “Month of Children’s Rights” held in the Republic on 20th of October – 20th of November, 2010. So, seminars, trainings, round tables and meeting of ecological character had been arranged in higher and secondary educational institutions in regions of the Republic.
At the same time, essay competition on the subject of “Heydar Aliyev: I want all to be protector of nature”, painting competition in kindergartens on theme of “Environment in children’s eyes”, knowledge competitions had been arranged among pupils and community work days had held during autumn sowing.
Seminars and trainings in Aarhus Public Ecological Information Centers had been held in Baku, Ganja and Gazakh in order to inform and enlighten the public about provision of realization of Aarhus Convention in Azerbaijan and environmental issues.
350 press releases which expressed activity of the Ministry within 2010 had been brought to attention of representatives of mass media.
