Activity of radiometeorologic and aerologic observatory

The subject of the radiometeorology is to study hydrometeorologic processes occurring in troposphere and dangerous air events relating to them and the method is measuring the various radiometeorologic quantities with the help of meteorologic radio locators (horizontal and vertical cuts of cloud and cloudiness in any height, upper and bottom borders, maximum reflection capacity, movement direction and speed, intensity and amount of raining, size of hails), as well as determination of the territories where lightening occur, rains and hails and dangerous air threats (hail, shower, snow, lightening, storm) and showing like film occurring hydrometeorologic processes.

The subject of aerology is to study physical processes occurring in free atmosphere, and the method is to measure various meteorologic quantities (speed and direction of wind, pressure, temperature and moisture), as well as gas and aerosol content of air with the help of aerologic radiolocators and sensing, i.e. the device raised to air.

Since the meteorologic radiolocators of the type “MRL-5” in Shamakhi, Ismayilli, Khanlar, Shaki, Aghstafa and Tovuz Radiometeorologic stations, aerologic radiolocators of the type “Titan AHK-1M” and Meteorit-2 in Mashtagha and Lankaran Aerologic stations were used for a long time and not provided with spare parts for major overhaul the work of these radiolocators were stopped in 1995, radiometeorologic and aerologic observation works are not carried out.

Meteorologic radiolocators in Fizuli, Zangilan and Aghdara Radiometeorology Stations remained in the territory of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenia. After establishment of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and National Hydrometeorology Department in its composition by the decree of the President of Azerbaijan Republic dated May 23, 2001 in first half of 2002 meteorologic radiolocators of the type “MRL-5” in Shamakhi and Aghstafa Radiometeorologic Stations, and in the end of 2003 aerologic radiolocators of the type “Titan AHK-1m” in Mashtagha Aerologic Station was repaired, using personal computers automated radiometerologic and aerologic observation systems installed and provided for exploitation.

After it, it was began to carry out radiometeorologic observations of hydrometeorologic processes by Shamakhi and Aghstafa Radiometeorologic Stations (lightening-shower and hail clouds, dangerous air events relating to them), aerologic observations of troposphere and stratosphere layers of atmosphere through aerologic radiolocators by releasing radio-sound raising up to 40 km each day.

In the result of radiometeorologic and aerologic observations military and civil aviations, various fields of agriculture and prognosing entities were provided with radiometeorologic and aerologic informations, and International Organizations on hydrometeorology with aerologic data about troposphere and stratosphere layers of the atmosphere.

Acception, collection, maintenance, archiving, processing and sending of radiometeorologic and aerologic observation data is carried out in automated mode through personal computers.

With the help of radiometeorologic observation means the intensity and amount of rain in various level in 250 km distance, the territories where rains and lightening, the size of hail and territories where hails in 250 km distance, use of this data in short-term air prognosis, provision of military and civil aviation with meterologic information, prognosing the floods and flows.

The following are formed and described in the surface background in coloured monitor through personal computer:

1. the parameters of cloudiness is measured in any point of selected phase;

2. the maps of horizontal cuts in any height and vertical cuts in any direction of radio-reflections of cloudiness (clouds);

3. the maps of maximum reflection (Z10max - and Z3,2max);

4. the maps of lower and upper borders of cloudiness (clouds)

5. the maps of intensity of rains and amount;

6. the maps of dangerous air events (hail, lightening, storm, flow, snow);

7. the direction and speed of change of location of cloudiness (clouds);

8. the chart of change of parameters of cloudiness (clouds) for the time;

9. change of all maps mentioned above in videofilm type according to the time;

10. the radiometeorologic observational data is documented;

11. initial radiolocation data is archivized;

12.the radiometeorologic observation data, as well as in case of carrying active affection works to hail processes active affection materials is printed with colored (black and white) printer;

13. In case of observation of cloudiness in protected area and near to it the system is automatically transformed from “On duty” mode to uninterrupted observation mode;

14. In case there is no affection object in protected area or near to it after a time of observation program stops the works of MRL-5 radiolocator, after a certain period (for example after each 15 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hour and etc.) radiolocator is automatically set to work and the observations are carried out in “On duty” mode;

15. For easiness of the work there is “Loupe” mode in order to increase the size of any part of the screen of the computer.

Vertical sensing of atmosphere is carried out with aerologic observation means and the pressure of atmosphere in various layers of atmosphere, the temperature and moisture of air, speed and direction of the wind is determined. This information is used in air prognosing, as well as provision of military and civil aviation with aerologic information.

The following are formed and described in the surface background in colored monitor through personal computer:

1. the speed and direction of wind, temperature, moisture, pressure is calculated and charts are set;

2. dew point is calculated;

3. standard heights (100, 200, 400, 600, 800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, 2000…. 7000 HP) is selected and the values of their parameters are written;
4. tropopause is determined (acute change of temperature between 14 km and 17 km and 18 km and 22 km);

5.special points ( the places where temperature, moistire, speed and direction is rapidly change);

6. “The layer near to earth”, “Stratum”, “MK-04AB”, “MK-04CD”, “Vertical steadiness”, “Glazing” data is printed by printer.

7. the aerologic observation data is documented and archivized.

“Aerologic instruction”, “Radiometeorologic instruction” and “Code – MK-04 for transfer of aerologic observation data”, personnel’s duty instructions were prepared by radiometeorologic and aerologic observatory.
