Investigation of sweet, mineral and thermal waters within the country is being continued at the moment. Surface and underground sweet water basins have limited resources and unequally distributed within the republic. Surface sweet water resources are 28030 km3 and 72% of it is formed out of the country. Therefore underground water has great importance. Daily consumption resources for underground water in the republic is 21606,06 thousand m3. Underground water with more consumption resources is in the following territories: Garabagh-Mil (mln m3)-7909,09; Ganja- Gazakh-4218,6; Ganikh-Eyrichay- 3822,0; Samur-Gusarchay-3470, 72; Nakhchican-9022; Shirvan-517,7.
There are more than 200 groups of mineral water source which have more than 1000 exit. According to its chemical composition, mineral waters of Azerbaijan are collected in 10 groups: hydrocarbonate, hydrocarbonate-chloride, hydrocarbonate-chloride-sulphate, chloride-hydrocarbonate, chloride, chloride-sulphate, sulphate-chloride, sulphate-hydrocarbonate, with blue stone. Total mineral water resources are 16 thousand l/day. Resources according to separate zones are as follows: GreatCaucasus-1898,6 thousand l/day, Small Caucasus-11278,7 thousand l/day (including Nakhchcan AR-4352,1 thousand l/day), Talish-2793, 9 thousand l/day, Kur cavity-50,0 thousand l/ day. Forecasted thermal water consumption over the republic is as follows:
The south hangs of the GreatCaucasus – 2000m3/day (t-30-500C);
Guba-Khachmaz zones-21000 m3/day (t-40-850);
Absheron peninsula – 20000 m3/day (t-40-900 C);
Mountainous part of the Small Caucasus – 4000-5000 m3/day (t-30-740 C);
Nakhchican AR – 3000 m3/day (t-40-500C);
Talish uplands – 15000 m3/day (t-31-430C);
Lankaran 7000-8000 m3/day(t-44-640C);
Kur cavity – 170000 m3/day (t-30-710 C);
Over the republic – 249000 m3/day
Water demand in the different parts of the republic, especially in the regions in Aran zones is met through rivers (rarely), and in most cases through irrigation and channel water which doesn’t comply with the sanitarian norms. In order to meet the water demands of the population through ecologically clean water, sweet and little mineralized water (2-8 l/san debit for drinking and economic purposes ) has been detected in Beylagan, Imishli, Saatli, Aghstafa, obustan, Barda, Tovuz, Ismayilli, Khizi, Samukh region. Baku-Oguz-Gabala water pipe construction has been begun from hydro geological point of view to ensure water supply to Baku city.
Ecologically pour subsoil water resources of 5m3/san meeting “drinking water” standards were estimated and maintained in the area mentioned, in accordance with results from drilled exploratory wells. Wells drilled in the settlements for refugees and in Galingac, Goshakend and Rushan villages of Ismayilli region were put into operation disinterestedly. Research process of subsoil water resources in Samukh and Ismayilli regions, including area in Girdmanchay-Goychay, Heremi area of Mill plain was completed, while such water resources were primarily assessed. Subsoil water resources are still having researched in the territory of Shirvan National Park and territories where refugees and IDPs settled.
